Arrived now in its fourth edition, Ted Talks Lake Como will take place this coming November 10.
In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading" TED has launched a program called TEDx, local events, organized independently, which aim to bring together people to share an experience similar to the one you live with TED. Our event is called TEDxLakeComo, where x = TED event organized independently, live presentations and screenings of videos from TEDTalks are combined in order to foster relations and discussions within the participants. The TED Conference provides general model for TEDx events, but the local TEDx, including ours, are made independently.
TED is a nonprofit organization that has as its goal to spread ideas that have value. Started as a four-day Conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown in its mission through various initiatives. In TED's annual Conference the major protagonists of the "thinking" and "doing" are invited to submit their ideas into maximum 18-minute presentations. Their interventions are made available, free of charge, at www.ted.com. TED conferences have seen in the past Bill Gates, Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nanda Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isalbel Allende and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The annual TED Conference takes place in Long Beach, California; TED Global instead held annually at Edinburgh in Great Britain. TED initiatives in the media include www.ted.com where are stored and made available daily TEDTalks, the new TED Conversations that make possible exchanges of ideas between the fans of TED, and the open translation Project which provides to subtitle videos and enter the transcription of interventions as well as the appropriateness of the various TED Talks to be translated into several languages by volunteers from all over the world. TED has also established an annual prize (TED Prize) to three exceptional individuals who want to contribute to changing deil world are given the opportunity to realize their desire.
